
The American aircraft manufacturing concern Boeing announced the successful first test of the prototype of the city passenger aircraft.
According to the company’s message, during the tests that took place on January 22 in the city of Manassas (Virginia), the prototype of a flying taxi rose into the air, depended for a short time, and then landed in autonomous mode. A further test program involves the development of flights along the route and the transition between the modes of vertical and horizontal flight.
“In just a year, we went from conceptual design to a flying prototype,” the chief technical director of Boeing Greg Hislop commented on the test.
The electric prototype developed by the Boeing Next division with the participation of Boeing purchased in 2017 by Aurora Flight Sciences, which collaborated with Uber in the Flying Taxi project, is designed to perform flights in completely autonomous mode at a distance of 80 km. The length of the device is a little more than 9 meters, and the width is 8.5 meters.

Recall, a little over a year ago, Boeing introduced a prototype of a large cargo drone capable of transporting a load weighing up to 225 kilograms. The aircraft was designed and built in just three months and successfully passed flight tests in the company's laboratory in Missouri.
