Why the Russian authorities are so worried about Maduro's regime

Representatives of the Russian authorities criticized the attempt of the coup in Venezuela in the sharpest expressions. State Duma deputy Sergei Zheleznyak called what was happening "another sad attempt to political manipulations and provocations" from external forces. According to United Russia, the United States "swinging the situation around Venezuela and now act in the usual manner of" color "revolutions."

“The collective West, led by the United States, no longer considers it necessary to somehow launder its puppet regimes in the media or the world community,” Olga Kovitidi, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security. The representative of the Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in the manner characteristic of the relevant Russian diplomacy, said that the United States introduces “direct management of the political situation” in Venezuela and is preparing to make its “regional vassal” out of the country.

In Venezuela, inflation of a million percent per year, there are no drugs and food, neighboring countries are not able to take more and more waves of refugees, but officials in Russia have no doubt: the fact that the people are protesting against all this is associated with the machinations of the United States. How to explain such insight?

Why does the deputy Zheleznyak see the “orange” revolution (naphtalin, I must say, the term) behind any foreign policy events?

You can cynically explain such constructions with the deep financial interest of Russian elites in the preservation of current leaders and orders in Venezuela. The conditional Igor Ivanovich, as they say, brought a worthy cache to Karakas, and now you have to protect “our bitch sons” there. Otherwise, they say, investments will be lost, any other government will ask Igor Ivanovich to the exit. As the economist Andrei Movchan rightly notes, this design can be believed on the condition that we believe that our state corporations really sent honest loans to Venezuela and expected them to recapture them. And they did not hope for a quick rollback and the immediate disappearance of all traces of the transaction. By the way, real investors in the local economy in the person of the Chinese are not at all ready to die in the barricade for Maduro and are limited to very restrained statements about the need to preserve the world.

Another explanation suggests that the whole thing is in general unprofessionalism, which is now prosperous in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Indeed, after the statements of Zakharova, not a single government that will replace Maduro will rush to be friends with Moscow. However, neither the hysteria of the tone, nor the special place that the Venezuelan question occupied in the minds of Russian officials, is unprofessionalism.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, say, devoted a series of three records on Twitter to Venezuela, despite the fact that in general in his status of microblorer he was disappointed and writes on social networks. “No one has the right to detach the head of state who recently won the election,” Medvedev reports.

And he receives thousands of comments, from which it is clear: the prime minister’s subscribers perfectly understand the nature of his excitement.

It seems that Russian officials observing the events in Venezuela involuntarily compare them with their own circumstances. Unperethical social policy, the impoverishment of the population, the constant economic crisis against the backdrop of the struggle with the whole world and the irremovable corrupt government - guess what kind of country is it about?
