The young gypsies Fatima and Alena, and the Dean volunteer who made friends with them in the film by Julia Vishnevetskaya.
Dina Kabulova is a teacher in kindergarten, a student of sociology in the Moscow State Pedagogical University and a volunteer of the Christian association “Friends of the Holy Egidia community”.
Once Dina handed food to the homeless at the station and met a gypsy boy named King. He asked to bring a book to teach a younger brother to read: many gypsy children do not go to school, because their parents have no documents.
Dina, along with friends from the community, began to go to a camp 100 kilometers from Moscow to engage in school subjects with children - and made friends with young gypsies Fatima and Alena. The girls told how difficult it is to them in the Tabor: control from the brothers and the elders, a sea of economic affairs. Dina, however, envies them and says that she would like to be a gypsy.
Fatima monologue
( With a laugh ) Take measures, let me take me out of here, we do not want to live here. At least where, the main thing is not to be here. You can’t do anything here. Pants cannot be worn. She ( shows to another girl ) caught, she talked on the phone. Our brothers beat her, sent to the hospital. My brother also beat me, probably a year ago, [for what] that I talked on the phone. I went to the hospital. That is, we can’t communicate on the phone, correspond, you can only quietly. And still, if they find out - God forbid. And there are those that can be killed at all. If the girl smokes, they take her tongue and cigarette [stew on him]. You can’t smoke with us. You, Russians, are excellent, you can sit on the Internet, picking yourself on the phone, but we can’t.
You can’t walk to the girls at home only to sit. Mom will allow, but the brothers - no. When mom permits, the brothers begin to argue with the mother: why did you allow, did not take our advice?
This is not life, it's boring. You can’t go to school for girls over 15 years old, they can steal. Therefore, they are not allowed to school. You go along the road, take it, stuff it into the car impudently. It happens that they are impudently stolen. Then we must marry him. If you stole you, let's say, gypsies and you will not marry him - this is a shame.
When you get married, the husband decides where to go, where not. The same thing as brothers can be said. What to do? Run. Then the parents of the girls will come and ask her: you were impudently stolen or with your consent? [If] the girl says that it is impudent, then it will be a big scandal. And if by her consent, there will also be a scandal, but not so. We have two girls fled, one more recently escaped.
