Sometimes they give way to other activists, or unite with them - those who come here and stands for the rights of Crimean Tatars or in support of the defendants in the case of "new greatness". Such days “Sentsovites” are called “thematic”.

Today is also a theme day. January 28 - the birthday of the Karelian historian and "Memorial" Yuri Dmitriev, who opened the place of mass burials of victims of political repression in Sandarmokh and Red Bor (all in Karelia).

In June 2018, the Investigative Committee opened a second criminal case against Dmitriev (the first historian was attracted and ultimately released). Today, the human rights activist is again accused of the most “dirty” accusations - violent acts of a sexual nature in relation to a young adopted daughter.

Recall that the first accusation against Dmitriev was put forward three years ago. Then - allegedly the manufacture of children's pornography. The reason was the photographs of his adopted daughter found in Dmitriev’s computer. Pictures were not published anywhere, intended for the guardianship authorities as a report on the state of health of the child. In April 2018, Dmitriev was justified, but the joy was short-lived: already two months later, the UK canceled the acquittal.

People gathered today at the reception of AP - also historians, but also translators and managers - came to congratulate Dmitriev on his birthday. With a poster on which the demand to free Yuri Alekseevich, they held a series of single pickets. And they transferred a few words to his support.

But at the end of June, an even more absurd accusation came. To come up with such a monstrous crime. A person who could spend all this time on work and his research all this time is forced to meet his birthday in prison.
