On November 30, at the request of the administration, I wrote a petition addressed to President Petro Poroshenko about pardon. <...> On December 14, 2017 he was sent to the Kharkov SIZO -27 due to preparation for the hostage exchange process ( we are talking about the exchange between Ukraine and the Ordlo, to which formally citizens of Russia cannot have a relationship. - V.I. ).

In total, twenty -one citizens and one citizen of Russia, held in the colonies and pre -trial detention centers of Ukraine on charges of various participation in the war in the Donbass, filed such petitions to the President of Russia.

These letters were written in August last year and immediately transferred to the Russian side through diplomatic channels.

Our country did not give any answer to the petitions, no one was interested in the fate of compatriots, the consuls did not go to them, they did not send the programs and write letters, no one contacted their relatives, Russia continued to play “Ichtamnets” at all levels.

But the state should, with the power of its propaganda, sent these people to the Donbass, which encouraged them to take up weapons against the people of another country, to ultimately recognize their existence, especially now, when they pray for help? Just the existence of everyone separately-from a resident of Yakutia Vasily Kusakin to a married couple from St. Petersburg Olga Kovalis and Pavel Chernykh, from Muscovite Denis Sidorov to Irkutian Valery Gratov?

We are not talking about the degree of their guilt or innocence from the point of view of Russia or Ukraine, we are talking about what they are, they are in captivity, they are our citizens, Ukraine is ready to give them out, and they themselves ask about it. Not just asking - they write petitions, petitions to the president of their country with a request to exchange them for Ukrainians sitting in Russia. So it’s more important for Russia - to continue to torment Sentsov, Baluha, plant mushroom, that is, punish, punish, punish - or rescue our citizens? What is more important for us as a society that is not without mercy is to return our own or punish strangers?

Once again - I do not discuss the guilt, I discuss the possibility of facilitating the fate of the citizens of my country and the neighboring war of the worse.

Where are you, homeland, and where is your love, why are you silent?

Thirteen times in total Ukraine appealed to the Russian Federation with proposals to exchange Russian citizens for Ukrainians sitting in Russian prisons and pre -trial detention centers. The last time it was the other day, in PACE, when the Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Irina Gerashchenko literally shouted the names of the journalists, adding: “Take your own, give ours!”

A group of civilian activists - those who really want to take their own and give strangers - submitted copies of these petitions received in the apparatus of the Ukrainian Ombudsman, to the administration of the President of Russia, the Foreign Ministry, and other organizations and asked for the question: what does our state do to exchange these specific people?

Another citizen of Russia from this list, Valery Alexandrovich Ivanov, died in a colony in December 2018. The circumstances of the death are being clarified. A petition for exchange is the last document in life signed by it.
