Senator from Karachay-Cherkessia Rauf Arashukov detained

Senator from Karachay-Cherkessia Rauf Arashukov was detained and taken out of the meeting room of the Federation Council. Before that, the Federation Council agreed to the detention of the senator, TASS reports , citing a source.

The detention is connected with the murder committed in 2010, clarifies with reference to the Interfax source . In 2010, the leader of the Adyge-Khase movement, Aslan Zhukov, was killed in Cherkessk; those suspected of involvement in the murder during interrogations stated that Arashukov was his customer . In September last year, Zhukov's relatives held pickets outside the building of the investigative department of the ICR for Karachay-Cherkessia, demanding that a criminal case be opened against the senator. They sent a written appeal to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, the Director of the FSB Alexander Bortnikov, Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika and the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.

Arashukov’s office stated that there were “certain forces of provocateurs” who were pushing the relatives of the murdered man to such actions in order to damage the senator’s reputation. “This campaign against the senator has been going on for more than a year. A lot of resources are being invested in it. Applications and lawsuits for libel have already been filed with the authorized bodies and courts, because these are all baseless public accusations, ”Arashukov’s office said.

Also, the prosecutor's office of the United Arab Emirates suspected the senator of forging a residence permit.

The TASS interlocutor said that Arashukov is accused of several crimes, including organizing a criminal community: “There is a whole bunch of accusations. Even Article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Organization of a criminal community (criminal organization) or participation in it (her).”

Before the detention of the 32-year-old parliamentarian, the plenary session of the Federation Council was closed, and the entrance to the hall was blocked by employees of the Federal Security Service.

RBC notes that the detention was carried out during a speech by Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika, while Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee, was in the hall.
