Deputies introduced a bill to the State Duma that would allow police to shoot down drones at rallies

A group of deputies has submitted a bill to the State Duma that would regulate the use of flying drones, says . the bill card

The document, in particular, gives the police, FSB, FSO and National Guard the right to temporarily restrict the presence of drones in the air over the place where a mass event is being held, as well as to shoot down drones, suppress and intercept their control signals if the flight is not coordinated.

The police must notify the organizers of the events and the Federal Air Transport Agency that drones are prohibited from flying during the event.

The project involves changes to the laws “On the Police”, “On the Troops of the National Guard of the Russian Federation”, “On the Federal Security Service” and “On State Security”.

In the explanatory note, the authors of the initiative indicated that it is aimed at “ensuring public safety and security of critical facilities.” In their opinion, the analysis of the situation “indicates the active use of unmanned aerial vehicles as threats” to the operation of critical facilities.

The bill was developed by a group of deputies led by the chairman of the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev, among them Nikolai Kovalev, who served as director of the FSB from 1996 to 1998.
