Over the course of a year, food prices in Russia have risen four times more than in the EU

In December 2018, compared to December 2017, food prices in Russia increased by 5.5%. In the European Union over the same period, food prices rose by 1.3%. This is evidenced by the data of Rosstat.

In Russia, meat and meat products rose in price most of all - by 7.8% - over the year. In the European Union, prices for vegetables increased most significantly - by 7.3%.

• In 2017, the European Union overtook Russia in terms of growth in food prices (2.6% in the EU versus 0.7% in the Russian Federation). According to Interfax, this was observed for the first time since 2011.
