A previously unknown fragment of the medieval saga about King Arthur was accidentally discovered in the UK.

A previously unknown fragment of a medieval cycle of novels about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table "Lancelot Grail" was found in the archives of the library of the British city of Bristol. It is reported by the University of Bristol.

The excerpt, consisting of seven handwritten pages, was discovered by Michael Richardson of the University of Bristol. The pages were inside a collection of works by the French theologian Jean Gerson, printed in Strasbourg between 1494 and 1502.

The discovered fragment is dedicated mainly to Merlin, the magician from the legends of King Arthur. Experts say that the found pages contain previously unknown fragments of the narrative. In particular, it details the actions of Merlin and other characters in the saga, especially during battles.

• The Lancelot Grail is an anonymous series of novels about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, written in Old French in the 13th century. It is assumed that fragments of this cycle were used in the 15th century by the Englishman Thomas Malory, who wrote the book The Death of Arthur. It is considered the most complete collection of legends about this character.
