Yandex established the Ilya Segalovich Award for young scientists

On January 30, the Yandex company announced the establishment of a prize for young scientists, which will be named after one of the co -founders of Yandex and the technical director of Ilya Segalovich, who passed away in 2013.

As stated in the description on the Yandex website , the Ilya Segalovich Award was established to support young researchers and the scientific community in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. It will be awarded to students, graduate students and scientists for reaching five areas of computer sciences. We are talking about machine learning, computer vision, information search and analysis of data, processing a natural language and machine translation and recognition and speech synthesis.

You can apply for the first award and the end of February, and the awarding ceremony will be held in April. The prize winners will be determined by the commission, which will include representatives of Yandex and the scientific community. The main selection criteria will be the availability of publications and speeches at conferences, as well as contribution to the development of a scientific community, Vedomosti write.

“The basis of our technologies are developments that would not be possible without a strong mathematical school and fundamental science. Using the award, we want to support researchers who, like us, are engaged in computer sciences and create the future technologies. The prize is named Ilya, who was very believed in progress and did a lot to support the IT community,” said Arkady Volozha General Director.

The total premium budget will amount to 15 million rubles. Winners from among students and graduate students will receive prize in the amount of 350 thousand rubles, and will also be able to go to an international conference on artificial intelligence. In addition, they will be provided with a personal mentor and an internship in the international research department of Yandex will be proposed. Scientific advisers will receive a reward of 700 thousand rubles. The company hopes that these prizes will help them grow talented scientists faster.

Note that Yandex has been engaged in projects in education and science for more than 11 years. Thus, students and graduates of universities can study at the Yandex School of Data Analysis, and the Yandex.litsa educational program works for schoolchildren.
