Venezuela's ambassador to Iraq, following the country's air force general, recognizes Guaido as interim president

The current Maduro regime is supported by fewer and fewer officials and politicians.

Venezuelan journalists distributed a video message on social networks from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Venezuela to Iraq, Jonathan Velasco Ramirez. In the video, he recognizes opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's interim president.

Ramirez, who became ambassador by decree of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (who died in 2013), called Guaido's position "the right side of history." The ambassador emphasized that he considers the opposition National Assembly the only source of legitimate power in the republic. “Our place is on the side of the people and the Constitution,” the diplomat added.

Ramirez's statement became known shortly after Guaido's authority was recognized by the Divisional General of the Venezuelan Air Force, Francisco Esteban Yanez Rodriguez. According to him, the current regime of President Nicolas Maduro is not supported and is considered dictatorial by 90% of the country's military. The Air Force press service responded by calling Rodriguez a traitor.

Guaidó declared himself the interim president of Venezuela during a rally on January 23. It was recognized by most Latin American countries, the USA, Canada and the European Parliament. Russia supported Maduro.
