Martynov's lawyer: Journalist of "Echo of Moscow" in Pskov interrogated as part of a criminal case on justification of terrorism

Ekho Moskvy journalist in Pskov Svetlana Prokopyeva was interrogated as part of a criminal case brought against her for justifying terrorism. The suspect’s lawyer, Tatyana Martynova, reported this on the Ekho Moskvy radio station.

“At the moment, Svetlana has been released home after interrogation. The interrogation was conducted formally, we did not give any testimony today. Svetlana was given a preventive measure in the form of an obligation to appear; no restrictions have been imposed on her yet,” she said.

T. Martynova added that during the search in the journalist’s house, all the equipment in Prokopieva’s apartment was confiscated.

“At the same time, it is completely unclear what the need was for the presence of special units during the search,” the lawyer noted.

Representatives of the investigative authorities with machine guns and wearing masks today searched the home of journalist Svetlana Prokopyeva, a suspect in the case of justifying terrorism. Investigative actions were also carried out in the Pskov office of Ekho Moskvy, after which the court fined the editorial office 150 thousand rubles.

The reason for initiating a criminal case was the journalist’s original broadcast on the radio station “Echo of Moscow” in Pskov, where the reasons for the explosion in the FSB reception room in Arkhangelsk were discussed.

The organization Reporters Without Borders condemned the persecution of Prokopieva. The Presidential Council for Human Rights drew attention to the case of journalist Svetlana Prokopyeva. As HRC member Ekaterina Vinokurova told the Interfax agency, requests to the prosecutor’s office and the Investigative Committee are planned. Earlier, the editor-in-chief of Echo of Moscow, Alexey Venediktov, said that the first deputy head of the radio station, Vladimir Varfolomeev, was heading to Pskov to understand the situation on the spot.
