The Supreme Court of Crimea overturned the sentence of two activists accused of humiliating the dignity of Bulgarians

The Presidium of the Supreme Court of Crimea overturned the sentence of two activists of the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Crimea, Dmitry Dzhigalov and Oleg Semenov, who were accused of inciting hatred towards Bulgarians (Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code), the head of the international human rights group Agora, Pavel Chikov, reports in his Telegram channel with a link to lawyer Alexey Ladin.

As Chikov clarified, the case against Dzhigalov and Semenov was closed due to the decriminalization of the act.

In May 2018, Dzhigalov was sentenced to a fine of 300 thousand rubles, and Semenov, including six months in a pre-trial detention center, was sentenced to a fine of 50 thousand rubles.

According to investigators, in the summer of 2016, Semenov came to the local branch of United Russia for a reception with State Councilor of Crimea Ivan Shonus and humiliated Bulgarians in his speech.

Dzhigalov published on his YouTube channel a video of Semenov’s speech, where he criticizes the Bulgarian government for not inviting a delegation from Russia to celebrate the anniversary of the country’s liberation from the rule of the Ottoman Empire in the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878.
