Trans-Baikal police received a suspended sentence for beating detainees to confess to stealing household chemicals

The Mogoituysky District Court of the Trans-Baikal Territory sentenced operatives Bator Yamadayev and Ayur Badmaev to 4.5 and 3.5 years of suspended imprisonment for beating two detainees (clause “a” of part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code) for the sake of confessions, lawyer Roman Sukachev told Mediazona, representing the victim on the initiative of the human rights organization “Zone of Law”.

Yamadayev was given a probationary period of four years, and Badmaev - three years. They will also be fired from the police, according to the website of the regional department of the Investigative Committee. “We consider the sentence too lenient and in the appeal to the Trans-Baikal Regional Court we will ask for real terms of imprisonment for the police,” added Sukachev, who represents the interests of Anatoly Sokolov.

According to investigators, on January 5, 2017, operatives of the Aginsky department brought 18-year-old Vika Barlybaeva and 19-year-old Anatoly Sokolov to the police on suspicion of stealing 10 thousand rubles from a household chemicals store, Radio Liberty clarifies .

“Yamadayev and Badmaev, forcing him to confess to committing a crime, knocked the young man to the floor, punched and kicked him several times, put a book to his head and beat him from above with their fist,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

According to the victim's lawyer, Badmaev hit the detainee at least six times in the chest and stomach with his fist, as well as in the groin with his knee. Operative Yamadayev hit the girl in the face, after which she fell to the floor, and he struck her four more times in the stomach.

Doctors diagnosed Sokolov with a closed head injury, he was hospitalized with a compression fracture of the spine, and the girl was found to have bruises on her face and body.
