A court in Samara sentenced an alleged Hizb ut-Tahrir member to 7 years in a maximum security colony.

The Volga District Military Court sentenced a resident of Bashkiria to seven years in a strict regime colony for participating in Hizb ut-Tahrir. It is reported by "Idel. Realii" with reference to the press service of the regional FSB.

The press service said that the Bashkortostan citizen, whose name was not named, joined the Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami cell in 2015. His duties allegedly included classes with new adherents on ideology. The man admitted his guilt and entered into a pre-trial agreement on cooperation with the investigation.

During searches at the place of residence, the operatives seized prohibited literature, as well as campaign materials.

• Hizb ut-Tahrir is an international pan-Islamic political organization banned in a number of Muslim countries, in Russia, and also in Germany - for not recognizing the state of Israel. According to the information and analytical center "Sova", the party is recognized as a terrorist in Russia unlawfully.
