Russian contractor killed in Syria

25-year-old Russian contract soldier Maxim Pletnev died in Syria, reports Tikhoretskiye Vesti . Information about the death of a military man was confirmed by the administration of the Tikhoretsky district of the Krasnodar Territory.

According to the publication, Pletnev died on January 31, and his funeral was held on February 4. Two relatives of Pletnev, in a conversation with the BBC Russian service, could not clarify in which unit he served and where he died, but noted that Pletnev had an officer rank.

“There are no secrets, Maxim Pletnev died as a hero, and I am sure that soon they will definitely tell about his feat, but now I consider it tactless to disturb his parents with questions,” deputy head of the district Sergei Zakharov told Kommersant.

The Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the information about Pletnev’s death.

Over the past three years, according to the Federation Council, 112 Russian military personnel have been killed in Syria . It was reported that in addition to military personnel, Wagner PMC mercenaries are fighting in Syria. According to Reuters sources, in Syria in February 2018 alone about 100 mercenaries were killed .
