The Balashikha police released the anarchist and graduate student of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University Azat Miftakhov, who had previously been detained on suspicion of making explosives. TASS reports this with reference to lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina.

“I just learned that my client Miftakhov was released from the temporary detention center without choosing any preventive measure for him,” Sidorkina reported to TASS.

UPD 13:47 Sidorkina told OVD-Info that neither she nor Miftakhov’s relatives know about his whereabouts.

UPD 15:13 Sidorkina reported that Miftakhov was taken to the internal affairs department for the Northern Administrative District on Admiral Makarov Street, 23.

Miftakhov is suspected of manufacturing explosives (Part 1 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, he manufactured an explosive device to carry out a failed terrorist attack in Balashikha.
The activist told the screwdrivers about the torture after his arrest; later, traces of torture were discovered on his body by members of the Public Monitoring Committee.
On February 4, the court was supposed to choose a measure of restraint for Miftakhov. The hearing was postponed for 72 hours, arguing that the investigation should provide the prosecution with data proving the need to arrest Miftakhov. The anarchist was left in custody pending trial.
On February 1, searches took place in the houses of Moscow anarchists and left-wing activists. In total, more than ten people were detained, all of them were asked about Miftakhov. One of the detainees, Daniil Galkin, said that security officers tortured him with electric shock and persuaded him to cooperate.
