The most common activity among young people in the Novosibirsk metro was browsing Instagram: every second user flipped through the feed at least once during the journey. YouTube videos are also popular among metro passengers - music videos, trailers of new films.
Subscribers over 25 are more likely to study news in the metro, both in social networks and in applications of news portals. More than 50% of “adult” passengers on the road devote at least 10 minutes to reading the news - the time it takes, for example, to get from the Garina-Mikhailovsky station to the Zolotaya Niva.
Over the year (January 2019), Internet traffic in the Novosibirsk metro doubled compared to January 2018. The number of voice calls made by Novosibirsk residents and city guests from the subway has grown by almost one and a half times. The Ploshchad Lenina metro station became the most “pumping” — its passengers downloaded a third of the total Internet traffic consumed in 2018 on the territory of all metro stations.
Mobile Internet traffic of MTS subscribers also increased by 1.7 times during the year at stations and on hauls near other student clusters: Oktyabrskaya and Studencheskaya, through which you can get to major Novosibirsk universities.
The growth of traffic in the subway was also affected by the appearance of a mobile Internet signal in the subway tunnels. Due to this, seven hauls between Karl Marx and Zaeltsovskaya stations now generate 45% more traffic than a year earlier.
The MTS network appeared in the Novosibirsk metro in 2002, providing passengers with communication at all stations. High-speed Internet is also available along the entire line of metro stations.
