The DPRK has asked Russia to donate 50,000 tons of wheat "to eliminate the damage caused by natural disasters last year," said Konstantin Kosachev, head of the Federation Council committee on international affairs.
Kosachev noted that the relevant departments are now working on this issue and expressed hope that a solution will be found.
- In Russia, 70 million tons of wheat were harvested in 2018, 15 million tons less than a year earlier.
- The reduced harvest led to higher prices: over the past year, premium wheat flour has risen in price by 30%. RBC, citing market participants , wrote at the end of January that wholesale prices for bread would grow by 6-7% in the near future.
