Prisoners of IK-3 in the Yaroslavl region went on a hunger strike

In the Yaroslavl region, prisoners of correctional colony No. 3, located in Uglich, went on a hunger strike, the press service of the regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service told Mediazona.

The department claims that applications for refusal to eat were submitted by prisoners who are in a punishment cell and cell-type premises; they demand “the creation of preferential conditions for serving their sentences.”

The Public Verdict Foundation reports that the hunger strike continues for the second day. In support of these convicts, prisoners in the residential area of ​​the colony also refused to eat this morning.

“According to our information, the head of the colony ordered all female staff to leave the territory of the penal colony. This may indicate that management is preparing to take emergency action if necessary. In addition, there is evidence that “some kind of documentation” is being taken out of the colony,” human rights activists say.

The Yaroslavl department of the Federal Penitentiary Service is conducting an internal audit.

Later, Public Verdict lawyer Irina Biryukova told MBKh Media that the prisoners stopped their hunger strike because “the conflict between them and the administration of the institution was settled.”

Previously, prisoners in this colony told human rights activists about systematic beatings. The Investigative Committee opened a case under points “a” and “b” of Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code (exceeding official powers with the use of violence or the threat of its use, with the use of special means).
