The Ministry of Justice included the Foundation for the Defense of Prisoners' Rights and the regional public organization for promoting the observance of human rights "Hotline" on the list of foreign agents. This is reported on the department's website. The Ministry of Justice clarifies that it discovered signs of foreign agents in the organization as a result of checking their documents.

“In Defense of the Rights of Prisoners” is a foundation whose founders are human rights activists Lyudmila Alekseeva and Lev Ponomarev, who is also now the deputy chairman of this organization. In addition, Ponomarev is the chairman of the board of the Hot Line.

Previously, the Ministry of Justice recognized Ponomarev’s “For Human Rights” movement as a foreign agent. At the end of December, the organization did not receive a presidential grant for the next year for the first time in eight years.
