Transbaikalia: a large steppe fire flared up

In Transbaikalia, the first large steppe fire flared up this year. Its area is already exceeding 300 hectares, said the head of the Greenpeace Forest Department Alexei Yaroshenko at the organization’s forest forum.

According to him, the first large steppe fire began yesterday, February 17, on the border of two Transbaikal regions - Krasnokamensky and Transbaikalsky. He clarified that due to natural factors, the spread of fire in the coming days may continue.

The head of the Greenpeace Forest Department stated that the little -resident winter threatens a fire hazard in Buryatia, Trans -Baikalia, the Amur Region, the Jewish Autonomous Region, the Khabarovsk and Primorsky Territories. If there is no weather miracle - powerful snowfalls or unusually rainy spring, the beginning of the fire hazardous season in all these regions will be extremely heavy, Yaroshenko said.
