The trial of an HIV-infected residents of Irkutsk, who refused to treat his daughter, began at the end of December. The defendant refused to plead guilty to the death of her daughter. The criminal case of causing death by negligence was brought to her in early April after her daughter at the age of 4 months died in one of the hospitals of Irkutsk from pneumocycy pneumonia. Doctors said that the child would have been able to avoid infection if his mother took antiretroviral therapy during pregnancy. Earlier, doctors through the court twice could not force the Irkutsk woman to start the treatment of their daughter: after the birth of the girl, the hospital employees filed a lawsuit with a claim to start her treatment, but they lost the case, since the diagnosis of HIV infection was not yet confirmed. After the doctors filed a civil lawsuit to protect the rights of a minor, but the production was terminated, because, according to the judge, the interests of the child should not be defended not in civil, but in administrative order.

Last year, 785 children from HIV-infected mothers were born in the Angara. Since the beginning of 2018, HIV has been identified in the region of three personnel donors. According to the AIDS Center, more than 33.5 thousand people with HIV infection live in the region, and more than 800 children give birth to mothers every year, who, in 98% of cases due to medical care, appear healthy.

In the courts of the region, they regularly consider cases of need to be forcibly treating HIV-infected children. In August last year, the Tulun court ordered an HIV-infected mother, who refused to treat, to carry out therapy to the child with HIV. In October 2017, a brotherly court made a similar decision.
