A canvas with Gorbachev’s signature under the word “Sorry” was sold for 12 million rubles. The auction house called this work “an art provocation”

In Moscow, a canvas titled “Gorbachev. Sorry". This was announced by the auction house "12th chair", which held the auction.

The starting price of the lot was 100 thousand rubles. The name of the buyer is not reported; it is known that he participated in the auction by phone. Taking into account the percentage of the auction house, he will pay 13.8 million rubles, reports with reference to the 12th chair. Interfax

The lot is a canvas with the signature of the former president of the USSR, on which the word "Sorry" was later applied. The author of the work (the auction house presents him as the artist V. Ivanov) said that it was created in 2009, when Gorbachev came to give a lecture at the International University in Moscow. Ivanov was then a student of this university.

“I prepared a large canvas and a marker in advance. At the end of the conversation, plucking up courage, he asked Gorbachev to draw something as a keepsake. Mikhail Sergeevich smiled, signed widely and added: “Draw it yourself, you have enough imagination!”. On the same day, I put the inscription: “SORRY,” Ivanov said.
