Over 500 people were evacuated from the Irkutsk hostel due to the fire

Today, February 20, at 6 o’clock in the morning, rescuers of Irkutsk reported a fire in a hostel on the Communist Street. More than 500 people had to evacuate, the Ministry of Emergencies reported in the region.

According to the rescue service, the fire began in the room on the fifth floor, and the smoke filled the corridor. By the arrival of firefighters from the windows of the hostel, thick smoke was walking. “Since this five -story building is a hostel, we understood that the smoke immediately filled the common corridor, and people on the top floor could be blocked in their rooms. We had to open and go around each room in smoke and check for people,” said Pavel Belkin, deputy head of the fire extinguishing service of the Ministry of Emergencies.

Rescuers led out more than 100 people from the rooms - one of the rescued was hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning. In total, more than 500 people were evacuated from the building.

The fire smoked one room of the hostel, damaged furniture and personal items. In the room where the fire began, the heater stood close to the bed, a mattress and other things caught fire from him, the IMERCOM was reported to the IMERCOM in the Irkutsk region.
