In Crimea, the FSB opened a case of violent seizure of power (Article 278 of the Criminal Code) against eight people accused of activities of the religious movement Hizb ut-Tahrir, recognized as a terrorist organization, Novaya Gazeta writes , citing lawyer Sergei Legostov.

This case was combined with the main criminal case of participation in the activities of a terrorist organization.

The lawyer said that on February 22 he was given a resolution to initiate a new criminal case. According to Legostov, the accused were suspected of seizing power throughout the state only on the basis of an expert assessment of the teachings of the Islamic organization, and not because of their specific actions.

Six residents of Bakhchisaray: Server Zekiryaev, Ernest Ametov, Timur Ibragimov, Seyran Saliev, Marlen Asanov and Memet Belyalov were detained in the fall of 2017. All of them were sent to a pre-trial detention center under parts 1 and 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (organizing the activities of a terrorist organization and participating in the activities of such an organization).

Server Mustafayev and Edem Smailov were detained in May 2018. Mediazona wrote in detail how the coordinator of the Crimean Solidarity movement was sent to a pre-trial detention center in the case of participation in Hizb ut-Tahrir (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).

In addition, the day before, Novaya Gazeta reported that a third criminal case was opened against Saliev on calls for terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) for a video on his VKontakte page, which was deleted in 2017.
