In Kirov, a three-year-old girl, whom her mother left alone at home for several days, died of dehydration

The mother of a three-year-old girl who died at home from dehydration was charged with murder with extreme cruelty (points “c”, “e”, part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code), according to the website of the Investigative Committee of the Kirov Region.

On February 20, the body of a three-year-old girl was found in an apartment on Shchorsa Street in Kirov. The local ombudsman for children's rights, Vladimir Shabardin , said that the girl was found by her grandmother, who came to congratulate her on her birthday.

“According to available data, the child was left [at home alone] for almost a week; on February 13, the mother left, turning off the water in the house and closing the apartment; on February 20, the child was found in the apartment by the grandmother,” he said.

Later, the Investigative Committee reported that a criminal case of negligence had also been opened (Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, the negligence of officials from the preventive and health care system could lead to the death of the child. The department noted that the girl lived in unsanitary conditions, without necessary food, water and medicine. In addition, the mother did not raise and support the girl for a long time, but officials did not engage in preventive work.

On February 21, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the child’s mother. No visible injuries were found on the girl’s body, but an examination determined that the child could have died from dehydration. On the afternoon of February 22, the court sent the woman to a pre-trial detention center for two months, the Investigative Committee told RIA Novosti.

According to investigators, the girl’s 22-year-old mother left her daughter alone at home for several days, as a result of which she died. The publication Baza claims that the girl ate washing powder out of hunger.
