Graphics for Material: CanvaThis year has become perhaps the most popular date for filmmakers who wished to try on post -apocalypse on Earth and the effect of the hypothetical creation of the most desirable scientific developments. Still fantasy or really reality? How close were they to the truth?
Genetic design
The creators of the film “Running Blade”, released in 1982, practically fell into a point. In the picture, the action of which takes place after 37 years, that is, in 2019, there is a genetic engineer. The scientist specializes in genetic design, that is, creates a biological shell for androids, or so -called replicants.
Until last fall, a change in human DNA to give him the appropriate parameters remained exclusively the subject of ethical disputes: we have the right to interfere in the biological process or do not. Three months ago, the idea of the film became a reality. Chinese geneticist He Jiankui announced the birth of the first two babies with edited genes. Shortly before that, the British scientific community also stated that if necessary, the scale of work in this direction would be increased.
The goals laid down in the plot of the film, and reality are certainly different. In the first case, clones were created, in the second - genes related to serious diseases were changed in advance. Jiankui artificially introduced a mutation that blocks the infection with HIV virus. The need for intervention in DNA for the sake of programming a certain appearance is denied by scientists themselves, nevertheless, such an opportunity appeared ... as according to the script.
The remaining assumptions of the “Runner on the blade”, once: the single CitySpeak language, enslaved by man androids and robots endowed with mind, emotions and ambitions, turned out to be too optimistic for 2019.
Weather correction and artificial gravity
According to the released screens only two years ago, the film "Geostorm", this year humanity was to learn how to control the weather with the help of satellites. This did not happen and is unlikely to happen at least in the next few decades.
The scientists have learned to influence the weather on a tiny scale, say, within a small town or even village. Apply silver iodide to form clouds and uniform distribution of precipitation in time; For a similar effect, a laser with special impulses that cool the atmosphere was developed; We studied the possibility of climatic control using satellites ... But the problem is always the same - a person simply cannot provide a crazy amount of resources that is necessary in order to withstand at least one hurricane. Even if such an opportunity appears, most likely, it will apply the atmosphere so serious damage that two new ones will have two new ones for each prevented cataclys.
Another breakthrough, according to the scriptwriters, was to create artificial gravity on spaceships. Just imagine: to become an astronaut, it is not necessary to be able to cope with space loads and have an ideal vestibular apparatus. On the deck of the spaceship, you can walk like office corridors. But if everything rests on a scale on the weather management issue, there is still not a single real solution on the creation of artificial gravity. To overcome weightlessness, a certain matter with negative gravitational mass is necessary. While this matter, more precisely, was not found, the idea of the scriptwriters will remain fantastic.
The hologram world
Artificial landscapes, communication with voluminous digital copies - the hologram of 2019 has become one of the most popular fantastic ideas. In 1995, they shot the film "Holographic Man", which has a hologram -based prison. Ten years later, the Ostrov anti -utopia show a technology that creates a three -dimensional fictional “landscape”.
Despite the variety of technological solutions: cameras, projectors, glasses, special tables - the engineers have not yet reached the scale described in the scenarios of films. Even the simplest visualization requires considerable investments and the availability of 5G networks to transmit hundreds of gigabytes. An independent life of holographic objects with passage through the walls and without binding to projectors, displays, numerous cameras and high -speed Internet - this is definitely not about 2019. But most importantly, so far it has not been possible to achieve the high realism of the image in order to force someone to believe that the modeled view outside the window is reality.
Cryonics
Freezing in a cryogenic chamber - this is how the authors of the film “2019: after the fall of New York, shot in 1983, can be saved from any cataclysms, including your favorite plot with the consequences of a nuclear war. The daughter of one of the main characters, placed in a cryogenic chamber, after defrosting was the only one who retained reproductive ability.
Even after 36 years, science is not capable of this. According to information from various sources, from several hundred to several thousand people, a number of specialized companies are cryonized in the world, but so far any data on success after defrosting are associated either with animals or individual organs, in particular, with the heart. So far, this is the most controversial scenario for 2019. There is technology, the result is unknown. Even with artificial gravity, everything is a little simpler - it simply does not exist and the point.
As for the nuclear apocalypse. This is not the most worthy topic for analysis, however, if we talked about documentary cinema, our planet would now be a huge “set” for “Mad Max”. The endless desert, dilapidated Ford and Dodge of the middle of the last century, kinescope TVs with a diagonal of 15-20 inches-somehow this year was represented by fans of the post-apocalypse. For example, this is how the page from some automobile magazine should look like today:
In fact, a very interesting picture of our fantastic present is obtained. People are frozen in cryogenic chambers, android clones walk along the streets, individual parts of the world are just a hologram, cars move through the air, all existing languages have died out, but at the same time the same TVs, computers, ordinary machines have not changed, still there are neither mobile communications nor the Internet.
Of course, this is just a fantasy, however, the legendary film “Back to the Future-2” (a reference to 2015, and therefore to our days), showed that fantastic cinema is a huge field for scientific ideas. Nike has released self-lifting sneakers. Of course, there is no benefit for humanity, but the main thing is that they did it.
Aerobors, they are flying boards, they are also hoverboards, expect their stellar hour. Despite the loud press releases and demonstration videos, while these are more prototypes. But they already exist. Something similar could expect, say, TVs. When the “Geoshtorm” was released on the screens, the scientists once again returned to the issue of weather management with the help of satellites. The conclusion is disappointing, but there were opinions and another analysis.
Flying cars
“Passing by the 20th floor of one of the skyscrapers of the Moscow City business center I asked the driver to land me ...” The main transport infrastructure in 2019 should look something like this, according to the cinema. Flying transport, perhaps the main character of the futuristic paintings of past years. In fact, the result is the same as with aerobards. Further concepts and single demodels of engineering have not advanced. Moreover, the prospects of flying cars, unlike the same hoverboards, are quite ghostly. A board and a car that has fallen from the sky is not the same thing. This is the main reason.
Artificial blood
The most non -standard fantastic plot. According to legend, told in the film “The Warriors of the Light” (the premiere took place in 2009), the planet covered the epidemic that turns people into vampires. This fact is not particularly interesting for us. Interesting different: in the yard of 2019, and biologists who infected the virus are frantically trying to develop artificial blood or any of its substitute. In reality, she was recreated two years after the release of the film, that is, eight years ago. Today it is a very narrow, but, according to marketing research, an extremely promising market whose boom will have to be 2023-2025. The only problem that the profile companies are faced with - artificial blood cannot be synthesized in large quantities, which, accordingly, does not allow reducing its cost.
* * *
In some points, presenting what kind of 2019 it will be, the scriptwriters were very close to the truth. The story with a genetic design is generally a unique case - almost in an apple. However, in general, the proximity to the truth was only an embryonic state. And this means that now it is simply impossible to imagine that a taxi flies somewhere above your head (although no, it turns out a hologram) that the passenger in the subway sitting on the contrary is a cyborg, covered in reproduced human tissue, that a storm warning will be replaced by a message about clear weather, and the astronauts will praise greetings from space during the morning squeezing of the floor.
But looking at such a world would be interesting.
