Chairman of the Board of the PSA Group Carlos Tavares said that the Opel brand is ready to enter the Russian market. The decision to return to the Russian market is part of a strategy aimed at developing the brand both in Europe and global markets, the company said .
Dragan Nenadovic will be responsible for expanding business in the Eurasia region, taking over as Opel's regional brand manager from the company's Moscow office. As the official representative of the concern Karin Due told TASS, PSA intends to expand the production of Opel cars at a plant in Kaluga. Their lineup has not yet been determined.
General Motors Corporation, which owned the Opel brand until 2017, previously produced Opel cars at factories in St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad, but in March 2015 announced the brand was leaving the Russian market due to the difficult economic situation.
