After the refusal of the singer Maruv, who became the winner of the national selection, the TV and radio company could choose a performer not from among the participants in the selection. However, the performers who took second and third places, Freedom-jazz and Kazka, were offered to represent Ukraine at Eurovision. They also refused to participate in the competition.
“In the current situation, following the law on Public Broadcasting, as well as in the context of excessive politicization of the course of the national selection, the Public Broadcaster decided to refuse to participate in the Eurovision 2019 International Song Contest,” the NOTU said.
