Ukraine refused to participate in Eurovision. And this is good news, but not for Russia

For the past five years, not a single EV does not do without scandals, and almost all of them are connected either with Ukraine or with Russia. This time the scandal broke out before the competition. Ukrainian singer Anna Korsun, who performs under the stage name Maruv, went through a national selection, but refused to perform. And not at all because he does not love his country or sympathizes with Russia. Russia has nothing to do with it.

On the official Maruv page, several points of her contract with the National Television Company of Ukraine are posted on social networks and it is quite clearly explained why it considers this contract to be bonded:

1. “I have forbidden any improvisation on the stage without approval of the NTO (inconsistent with the twine, for example, will lead to a fine of 2 million hryvnias).

2. The immediate transmission of copyright to the song belonging to the Warner Music world label (these rights were known before the start of the competition).

3. Clearly comply with any requirements and instructions of the NTO. (Theoretically, they can force me to dance at my birthday by some deputy prime minister, and in case of refusal, they disqualify and oblige me to pay a fine of 2 million hryvnias.

4. The ban on communication with journalists without coordination with NTO (which completely violates freedom of speech and human rights).

And much more absurd.

In case of violation of one of the points, a fine of 2 million hryvnias and compensation for losses for an indefinite amount.

In return, I don’t get anything from the NTO: neither a penny of financial support, nor assistance in organizing a trip, nor even more than international promotion. I have to do even a visa myself. ”

Theoretically, it was possible to replace Maruv with any other participant in the selection, but the group Freedom Jazz, Kazka and Brunettes Shoot Blondes, which took the second to fourth place, also refused to go to the competition. Like our pancakes at the "Invasion" festival. And it was decided not to send anyone.

The patriotic audience first poured flows of dirt on all four, accusing the betrayal of national interests. At the same time, Jamale, who supported Maruv. And then the audience came to the conclusion that okay, and we do not need this competition. The Russians reacted about the same when, in 2017, Julia Samoilov was not allowed to Kyiv for Eurovision.

No doubt, EV is a bad competition. He has nothing to do with real music. There, plastic, sterilized pops competes among themselves. And in this sense, the MARUV video is not much different from the video of our Lazarev, with whom this year is not all right either. Zhirinovsky ran into him because the singer could not clearly answer the sacramental question, whose Crimea is still.

Passions around Eurovision are boiling not at all because of music, this is a matter of national prestige. The logic is this: if our country has won, then our country is better than yours.

But Maruv appeared and broke the scheme. Almost the first time in recent years, social problems have become higher than national ones. First, freedom of speech and human rights, and only then national interests. Our human rights activists and oppositionists regularly resemble the Russian authorities: people are more important than the state. But if this requirement is true and relevant for Russia, then why is it wrong for Ukraine? We know that human rights are a cross -border thing.

And for the first time, lately, certainly, pop musicians showed a workshop solidarity. Few people expected this.

In the view of the public, they are all finished egoists who think only about money and glory. But the artists united and entered the fight against corporations for their interests. And from here already two steps to the creation of the trade union. There are, it turns out, things for which you can give a damn about money and success.

So this is good news, definitely good. If something similar happened in the camp of Russian pop music, I would feel a surge of pride in the country. But in the camp of Russian pop music, this does not happen.
