On Wednesday, Teresa May discussed a further plan of action with the UK parliament. On March 12, a decisive vote is scheduled for the current agreement. Judging by the estimates that are now, the opposition Labor Party unanimously rejects it, and the voices of the conservatives - May's single -party members - will be very shared. The thesis of May that the current deal - “the best that the UK has now” is far from everyone supports.
The fact is that the second version of the agreement, like the first, does not solve the “Irish issue” - that is, it does not regulate the border between Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom) and the Republic of Ireland (a member of the European Union). It is assumed that in the next two years, London and Brussels will sign an agreement on the creation of a free trade zone, then the need for the border will disappear by itself, and before that the UK remains in the Customs Union and will only be able to get out of it by agreement with Brussels. But it is the dependence on Brussels that many do not like this decision.
If the transaction in the current form will block the deputies on March 12, then the very next day the parliament should vote for the so -called “No Deal Brexit”, or “Hard Brexit”. This is a scenario to which both London and the European Union are already preparing, but the majority hopes that it will not reach. “Brexit without a transaction” means that all important spheres, ranging from trade and movement of citizens to transport and fish quotas, will remain unresolved. There are supporters of the “hard Brexit” in the British parliament, but their minority. Still, politicians are afraid of uncertainty, and business-loss of money.
If this option does not pass, on March 14, the British parliament will consider the transfer of the Brexit date to win the time and have time to coordinate some new option. Ivett Cooper, a deputy of the party’s labor from the European Union, submitted a proposal from the European Union - it was already supported by the most: 502 deputies, only 20 voted against. Now you can postpone the terms of Brexit - for this you need EU support.
There should be no problems with the European Union. Immediately after the failure of the first version of the transaction in the British parliament, the official Brussels said: the transfer of Brexit is possible. Yesterday, Germany and France agreed with the possibility of transferring Brexit.
“If the UK needs more time, we, of course, will not resist this. We are playing for the ordered process of Britain’s exit from the EU, ”said Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel. The French President Emmanuel Macron agrees with her. But both leaders confirmed: there will be no review of the essence of the transaction.
Teresa May does not want to pull the cat by the tail. The prime minister has repeatedly repeated that Brexit should take place at the appointed time, because “such is the will of the British.” But for her, any option is better than a “hard Brexit”, and if a short delay is “needed for this” - let it be.
