Ukraine will not participate in Eurovision 2019, and in the country's public television company they announced excessive politicization of local selection for an international song competition. Before that, four leaders of national vote in a row for various reasons refused to represent the country in the competition.

On February 23, in the Ukrainian selection for a trip to Israel, the singer Maruv (real name is Anna Korsun) won, receiving the maximum number of votes from the jury and the public. On February 25, it became known that the agreement on the trip between the singer and the national public television company of Ukraine (NTKU) will not be signed. “I am a citizen of Ukraine, I pay taxes and sincerely love Ukraine. In addition, the contract implies a ban on inconsistent communication with reporters. In the event of a violation of one of the points, the artist is waiting for a fine of 2 million hryvnias and compensation for losses for an indefinite amount.

The “public broadcaster” could choose any performer not from among the participants in the national selection, but he refuses such an alternative, because “respects the choice of spectators in the national selection”.

According to the rules of Eurovision, the broadcasting broadcast must ensure the non-political nature of the competition, and the situation that has developed around this year’s NTSOTBOR has obvious signs of politicization. The television and radio company proposed starting a public dialogue in the format of talk shows, forums and discussions for the formation of a position on this problem, as well as the development of proposals for the draft law that could resolve the situation. But this year, the European review of the song will be held without the participation of Ukraine.
