The ECHR awarded 5 thousand euros to ex-governor Sakhalin Alexander Khoroshavin

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered the Russian Federation to pay 5.1 thousand euros to the former governor of the Sakhalin Region Alexander Khoroshavin, who was convicted of corruption, Mediazona told with reference to the department’s website.

The ECHR decided that the Clause of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms, which prohibits an excessively long preliminary conclusion, was violated in relation to the lawsuit.

The former governor was arrested in March 2015. According to investigators, Khoroshavin organized a criminal group in 2009, with the help of which he received “rollings” from almost all the large construction projects of Sakhalin and other projects that had budget financing. In the case of 10 episodes, in the materials of the investigation, 522 million rubles appear as bribes and 77 million rubles - as "legalized funds".

On February 9, 2018, the Yuzhno-Sakhalin court sentenced the former governor of the Sakhalin Region to 13 years in prison. He must also pay a fine of 500 million rubles. The ex-official was deprived of state awards, he will not be able to work in the civil service for the next five years.

In June 2018, Khoroshavina was accused of receiving another 20 bribes. According to Svetlana Petrenko, the official representative of the Russian Investigative Committee, the size of the bribes was from 2 to 10 million rubles.
