Residents of Yakutsk rallied against migrants after natives of Central Asia were suspected of rape

On the evening of March 17, a spontaneous rally against migrants took place in Yakutsk. A call for a protest action was distributed in messengers after one of the residents of the city was raped.

According to the Investigative Committee for the republic, in the early morning of March 17, the woman was forced into a car and taken away in an unknown direction. After some time, she turned to law enforcement agencies, declaring rape.

According to unofficial data, three immigrants from Central Asia are suspected of involvement in the kidnapping and rape, one of them was detained. The Investigative Committee also reports on the detainee and two suspects, without specifying other details.

Yakutia.Info, citing police data , reports that about 200 people took part in the spontaneous rally. The police urged the audience to disperse and try to coordinate the action. At the same time, judging by the photos and videos from the rally, the police did not try to disperse the protesters.

According to Yakutia.Info, the participants of the rally intend to gather again in the evening of March 18 at the Triumph sports complex. The head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, told RBC that representatives of the authorities would come to meet with the protesters.
