A criminal case was opened against a resident of Yalta because of the meetings of Jehovah's Witnesses, Interfax reports with reference to the press service of the Crimean department of the FSB.

“It was established that the 34-year-old resident of Yalta organized the activities of the local organization“ Jehovah's Witnesses ”, conducted meetings, religious speeches, propaganda of the ideas of the indicated religious sect, and also involved new adherents into its ranks,” the UFSB release quoted.

The detainee is suspected of organizing the activities of a religious association prohibited by the Russian court (part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code). It threatens to 10 years in a colony.

The security forces conducted searches in the houses of the suspect and other adherents of the creed. According to the FSB, as a result of searches, prohibited literature, telephones, computers and money were seized.

Earlier today, the Archangelsk Department of the FSB reported the criminal case under the same article in relation to three followers of the creed in Severodvinsk.

The persecution of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia began after the decision of the Supreme Court, which recognized the organization of extremist and banned it.

In February of this year, 15 adherents of exercises were detained in Surgut, three of which were arrested. Later, several detainees talked about torture in the building of the Investigative Committee in Surgut.

"Mediazona" published stories of six victims. At the same time, the URA.RU source in the regional power departments claims that the believers beat themselves in order to then put pressure on the investigation.
