Searches of followers of Jehovah's Witnesses were conducted in Magadan

In Magadan, searches were carried out at the homes of followers of Jehovah's Witnesses, according to the religious association's Facebook page.

“The searches took place in at least 4 houses of believers, but there are suspicions that another 5 houses were searched, and their residents were taken to the FSB for interrogation,” members of Jehovah’s Witnesses report.

Equipment and personal belongings were confiscated from followers of the association. “The search of the Solntsev family took place in the presence of their 9-year-old child,” according to the Jehovah’s Witnesses page. There is currently no information about detentions or arrests.

The report also notes that law enforcement agencies reported the initiation of nine criminal cases under Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code (organizing the activities of an extremist organization or participating in one).

In May 2018, four members of Jehovah's Witnesses were sent into custody; later the measure of restraint was changed to house arrest.

• On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. In August, all organizations of Jehovah's Witnesses were added to the list of prohibited organizations.
• After this, a stream of criminal cases began against representatives of this confession in Russia. Suspects and accused of continuing the activities of the extremist organization began to be taken into custody. In February 2019, the court handed down the first sentence in the case of Jehovah's Witnesses with real imprisonment - Danish citizen Dennis Christensen was sentenced to six years in prison.
