Sheremetyevo Airport will launch an electronic boarding pass service in all its terminals (B, D, E and F) on April 4, Sheremetyevo General Director Mikhail Vasilenko said in an interview with Vedomosti. To enter the sterile area of the airport, simply show your boarding pass to the reader on your smartphone screen.

Earlier, on February 24, an order of the Ministry of Transport came into force, allowing the use of an electronic boarding pass. At the same time, you still have the opportunity to use a coupon printed independently or at the registration desk. To make the service available, an information system must be installed at the airport, consisting of an electronic database and devices for scanning bar codes from smartphone screens. Russian airports have been pushing for this innovation for many years, which will save on printing boarding passes and make it easier for passengers to pass through security and boarding gates.

But on February 25, only Domodedovo and Kazan airports launched this service. SITA became the supplier of the turnkey system for Domodedovo - reading devices and software. SITA research shows that the use of e-tickets reduces the risk of flight delays and increases the speed of passengers boarding by 50%. Other airports planned to introduce the service later.

The Pulkovo management company "Air Gates of the Northern Capital" is assessing the measures that need to be taken to introduce the possibility of using electronic boarding passes. The Pulkovo representative does not specify when the service can be introduced. The airports of Sochi and Krasnodar , part of the Basel Aero holding, planned to start accepting electronic boarding passes in March, a company representative said. The Airports of the Regions holding plans to do this by the summer tourist season, says a company representative. When crossing the border, a boarding pass is presented along with the passport, and the FSB border service does not have the equipment to read the pass from the screen of a smartphone; airports cannot influence this, explains one of the interlocutors.

The Ministry of Transport is developing technical solutions that will allow passengers on international flights to use electronic boarding passes, an FSB representative responded to Vedomosti’s request.
