146 gigabytes of information about Facebook users found on Amazon public servers

Cybersecurity company UpGuard discovered personal data of Facebook users freely available on Amazon cloud servers.

UpGuard specialists found two databases; both were posted by Facebook application development companies. The first database weighed 146 gigabytes and contained 540 million records of comments and likes of Facebook users. It was closed on April 3, after Bloomberg reported a leak on Facebook and the social network contacted Amazon.

The second database stored information about 22 thousand Facebook users. In particular, it contained data about their friends and likes, as well as email addresses and passwords. UpGuard clarifies that, most likely, these were passwords from the application, and not from a Facebook account. This base was also closed.

UpGuard does not say how long both databases were in the public domain.

• In March, it became known that Facebook stored the passwords of 200 to 600 million users on its servers in clear text. More than 20 thousand Facebook employees had access to the data.
