In Ingushetia, searches and detention of leaders of protest against the border with Chechnya were held

Detention and searches began in the morning with members of the Ingush Committee of National Unity. This was announced by the portal "Caucasian Knot" The head of the local branch of the Yabloko party Ruslan Mutsolgov.

According to him, the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia Akhmed Pogorov and the chairman of the public movement "The support of Ingushetia" of Barara Chemurziev, as well as the Deputy Chekurziev Musa Maltsagov, were detained. In addition to them, the head of the Council of Youth Organizations of Ingushetia Bagaudin Khautiev and the deputy director of the memorial complex of victims of repressions was taken away for interrogation, activist Zarif Sautieva.

On March 28, deputies were preparing to consider in the second reading the bill "On the referendum of the Republic of Ingushetia", which was previously adopted in the first reading. However, the head of the republic, Yunus Bek Evkurov, withdrew a bill from the People’s Assembly against the backdrop of criticism of the opposition, which stated that it does not indicate the reasons for which the referendum would be mandatory, and only those issues that cannot be submitted to the referendum are listed.

According to the lawyer, chairman of the Ingush branch of the Yabloko party Ruslan Mutsolgov, the new version of the law is dictated by a resonance agreement on the border with Chechnya, signed on September 26, 2018. As a result, opponents of the law went to the rally, demanding that Yevkurov are resigned, as well as introduce direct elections of the head of the republic and a mixed election system of deputies of the People’s Assembly of Ingushetia and municipal councils. Activists said that after the recall of the bill on a referendum from the parliament, the authorities lost the credit of the trust of people.

After the start of the action, the protesters drew attention to interruptions in Internet access. Stationary Internet access was also disconnected in all cafe closest to the area. The head of the Ingush branch of PJSC Rostelecom Bashir Hashegulgov explained this by an accident on the trunk line. The next night, the protesters remained at the site of the action, which continued the next morning and entailed collisions with representatives of the Russian Guard. The fighters pushed the participants in the action from the entrance to the local State Customs Committee, after which the clashes began: the protesters threw in the guards with bottles, dropped the iron fences, the security forces beat the protesters with rubber batons in response.

After several clashes, the protesters held negotiations with representatives of the authorities. They promised to agree on a new protest, which can be held in the same place in five days. After that, most of the protesters went home, but the other part of the protesters blocked the section of the federal highway Rostov-on-Don-Baku.

The rally participants adopted a resolution of six points. They demanded the resignation of Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the investigation of the facts of corruption of the leadership of Ingushetia, the cancellation of the agreement on the establishment of the border with Chechnya and the refusal to amend the republican law on referendum, the return of direct elections and the provisions of the law on rehabilitation of repressed peoples regarding the rehabilitation of the Ingush, suffered from Stalinist repressions.
