The court extended the arrest of Moscow State University graduate student Azat Miftakhov

The Golovinsky District Court of Moscow extended the arrest of Moscow State University graduate student Azat Miftakhov, accused of hooliganism, until May 7. Lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina reported this to OVD-Info.

According to her, the judge left for the deliberation room 10 minutes after the start of the meeting.

Earlier, bailiffs pushed people who came to support the accused out of the courthouse. Protocols were drawn up against two people for failure to comply with the requirements of the bailiffs (Part 2 of Article 17.3 of the Administrative Code). Eyewitnesses reported to OVD-Info that the bailiffs used force, and some of the listeners were forced to go to the emergency room.

• Azat Miftakhov is a graduate student at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University, an anarchist who was arrested on charges of hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code). The case was opened due to the events on the night of January 31, 2018, when unknown persons broke a window in the United Russia office in Khovrino and threw a smoke bomb inside.
• Miftakhov was detained on February 1, and later he told his lawyer about torture with a screwdriver. For the next 11 days, his detention was extended under various pretexts. OVD-Info spoke in detail about aspects of Miftakhov’s detention, and published a chronology of the development of the case of a broken window in the United Russia office.
