To the fact that Ukraine has become the main topic for Russian television, it was not used to it for a long time, but this week the Ukrainian elections have become a real main event in Russia. After the victory of Vladimir Zelensky in the first round and a dramatic call to the debate at the 70,000th Olympic stadium in the presidential race, a real show unfolds, behind which Russians who have not seen competitive elections for more than 20 years could follow with envy. Free elections are one of the few indisputable achievements of Ukraine. We have chosen several key points to show how they are arranged.

The tactics of both candidates are largely predetermined by their status: Poroshenko is the current president and the “personnel politician”, Zelensky is a typical “counter -fraud” candidate, who is compared with Trump or Italian comedian Beppe Grillo . From their positions, both candidates conducted the campaign successfully, says Politicalologist Gleb Pavlovsky, who participated in more than the same campaign in Ukraine.

• Zelensky deliberately makes the campaign streamlined and avoids specificity so that a protester from any camp can proharge himself with him, the Ukrainian political strategist Konstantin Bondarenko explains. “This strategy was consciously chosen, since there is not a single idea that could unite the Ukrainian electorate,” a source close to Zelensky’s headquarters admits in a conversation with The Bell. That is why Zelensky almost did not hold meetings with voters, but campaigned either on the Internet, or on concerts, or with the help of the already famous series “Servant of the People”. “In fact, he did nothing and did not say anything, so he did not make a single miss,” says Pavlovsky.
• Poroshenko, who has always been a centrist, over the past year, on the contrary, built a clear positioning for himself, becoming the face of the National Front. “He united the pro -government and West Ukrainian electorate and to a large extent of the military,” says Pavlovsky. Therefore, the campaign Poroshenko led traditional methods-he met with voters, held rallies, press conferences. On his pages, Poroshenko regularly publishes photo reports from mass meetings, accompanying them with slogans like “Together for victory!”.

Money. It is customary to associate Zelensky with the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, and partly it is true (we wrote in detail about how they are connected here). But at least at the official cost of the opposition candidate this did not affect. According to the Ukrainian CEC, Poroshenko spent five times more on the campaign - 407.8 million hryvnias ($ 15.1 million) against 86.4 million hryvnias ($ 3.2 million). Businessman Poroshenko, according to the data provided in the CEC, financed his campaign himself, and most of the Zelensky fund amounted to voluntary contributions of citizens.

Soticees are the main element of agitation in any modern elections. Surprisingly, the formal advantage here is for Poroshenko - in the official account of Poroshenko on Facebook, about 2.4 million subscribers against 450 thousand from Zelensky, on Twitter - about 1.2 million versus 5.2 thousand . But the quality of these numbers is doubtful. Poroshenko is traditionally accused of promoting social networks with the help of fake accounts - over the years of his presidency, the definition of “powder” has become so general that it has already switched to live supporters of the president. And Zelensky, first of all, uses his personal Instagram with 3.3 million subscribers, which was also popular before the campaign (Poroshenko has only 239 thousand in this social network).

Administrative resource. Of course, in free elections where the current president participates, he is present. In this sense, Poroshenko acts like Vladimir Putin: guesses social payments to his electorate for elections. Since March 1, 2019, the Ukrainian government introduced automatic indexation of pensions, and 2 million pensioners received one -time payments in the amount of 2.4 thousand hryvnias ( approximately 4.8 thousand rubles). On March 2, the President announced the increase in salaries to the military serving in the Donbass, on March 15-by 23%, raise the provision for “mining and gear fighters”.
