Residents of Arkhangelsk held a procession and a rally on April 7 in protest against the construction of the ShiES training ground, to which they plan to bring garbage from Moscow.
The rally participants gathered at the trade union square, and then moved to the central square of Lenin to the building of the regional administration. There they demanded a meeting with Governor Igor Orlov, and then his resignation.
According to observers, from two to three thousand people took part in the protest rally, the New Gazeta reports. The rally was not authorized by the authorities. The police demanded from people to disperse, but did not disperse the event.
Judging by the online broadcast of the Sotavision publication, after the completion of the rally, some of the people remained near the monument to Lenin, declaring an unlimited protest.
On the eve of the rally, its organizer Yuri Chesnokov was detained for 48 hours for unpaid fines for violation of traffic rules. On another organizer, Elena Kalinin, drew up an administrative protocol under an article on violation of the rules for organizing rallies.
The Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Igor Orlov told the Radio Says Moscow that he did not consider it necessary to comment on the protest campaign of the townspeople, and also could not clarify whether he intends to communicate with people who went to the rally. Previously, he called the protesters against the construction of the Hudel landfill.
