The ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, arrested in a fraud case, compensated Rosneft for the damage caused

The former presidential envoy to the Far East, the ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Viktor Ishaev, compensated for the damages attributed to him from fraud by 5.7 million rubles. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to his lawyer Pavel Zaitsev.

“The alleged damage was repaid by a payment order,” he said, noting that the money was sent to the account of Rosneft.

Despite this, the Moscow City Court left the decision of the court of first instance unchanged - Ishaev will remain under house arrest, the press service of the court told Novaya Gazeta.

At the end of March, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow placed under house arrest until May 27 the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Viktor Ishaev, in the case of embezzling money from Rosneft (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators, Ishaev, being the vice-president of Rosneft in 2013-2018, "as a result of deceit and abuse of trust of employees and management" rented a 280 sq. m for the regional office of the company "at a clearly inflated cost" (for 13.7 million rubles a year, almost three times higher than the market price, specifies RBC).

Ishaev was detained on the morning of March 28 in Moscow, while searches were taking place in the building of the Khabarovsk government, as well as in the Khabarovsk office of Rosneft. Oil company spokesman Mikhail Leontiev said that the investigation against Ishaev was initiated by the security service of Rosneft. Due to the violations it found, the company at the end of last year decided to close the representative office in Khabarovsk for the Far Eastern Federal District, the company said.

Viktor Ishaev was the head of the administration of the Khabarovsk Territory from 1991 to 2009, and then became the presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District and the Minister for the Development of the Far East in 2012-2013. After that, he became vice president of Rosneft and is currently an adviser to the president of the company on coordinating projects in the Far East.
