Roskomnadzor blocked the Yaroslavl publication Yarkub. Journalists complained about this to the Investigative Committee and the prosecutor's office

The Yaroslavl publication Yarkub sent a complaint to the Investigative Committee and the prosecutor's office against the actions of Roskomnadzor, which entered them into the register of banned sites. This was reported in the human rights center "Memorial".

Roskomnadzor said that the blocking is related to descriptions of suicide in last year’s article “In Yaroslavl, an autistic teenager jumped from the fifth floor,” written on the basis of a press release from the local Investigative Committee. The press secretary of the department, Vadim Ampelonsky, assures that his employees sent all the necessary notifications to the provider and gave the journalists a day to delete.

The telegram channel "Yarkuba" clarified that they learned about the blocking the night before from the hosting, and they had time until 20:00 Moscow time on April 11, but the site was blocked in the morning. The editor-in-chief of the publication Marina Sedneva also noted that Roskomnadzor did not notify either the editorial office or the hosting of the site in the form of the intention to block. In response, the journalists hid the material, leaving in its place an explanation of the reasons for the removal.

In a complaint to the Investigative Committee and the prosecutor's office, the actions of Roskomnadzor were regarded as obstruction of journalistic work (Article 144 of the Criminal Code). Yarkub also recalled that on April 1, they received a letter from the Yaroslavl Roskomnadzor demanding to remove material about obscene graffiti about President Vladimir Putin on the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The letter did not state the reasons for the removal, later the department explained this as “preventive work” under the new law on “clear disrespect for authority.” "Yarkub" was one of the few editions of the city who left a note.
