“Washington” again defeated “Carolina” thanks to assists from Russian hockey players

On home ice, Washington's hockey players beat Carolina with a score of 4:3 in extra time in the second match of the first round series of the Stanley Cup.

Niklas Backstrom (4'), TJ Oshie (10'), Tom Wilson (49') and Brooks Orpik (62') scored goals for the capital club, which is the current holder of the trophy . For Carolina, Lucas Wallmark (16'), Sebastian Aho (37') and Jordan Staal (55') scored.

Washington forwards Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov each gave two assists, defenseman Dmitry Orlov had one, and Carolina's Russian forward Andrei Svechnikov once took part in the scoring attack.

The decisive goal after Kuznetsov's pass was scored by Brook Orlik, who became the oldest defenseman to score a goal in overtime of the Stanley Cup. At the time of the goal, the American was 38 years and 199 days old. Previously, this achievement belonged to former Minnesota player Keith Carney (38 years and 66 days).

The capital club took the lead in the best-of-four series - 2:0. In the first game of the series , Washington won with a score of 4:2 . The third meeting will take place on the ice of Carolina on the night of April 16.
