Moreno: Assange turned the embassy in London into a center of espionage

President of Ecuador Lenin Moreno said that the founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange, who had been living at the Ekvador Embassy in London, tried to turn the embassy into a “spying center” against other countries and repeatedly violated the conditions under which he was given a political asylum.

This is what he in an interview with The Guardian explained the decision of the Ecuadorian authorities last week to deprive Assange of asylum and transfer it to the hands of British justice, which is now considering the extraction of the founder of Wikileaks to the United States.

According to Moreno, Assange, while at the embassy, intervened in the affairs of other states and in democratic processes in them. As an example, he gave the publication of Wikileaks about the Vatican. He also accused Assange of threatening the representatives of Ecuador himself and did not comply, being at the embassy, hygiene norms.

The decision of the Moreno government to refuse asylum Assange caused disputes in Ecuador. Former president of this country Rafael Correa, whose ally was Moreno, accused him of "betrayal." Critics of the president claim that Moreno decided to give the Assange out of revenge for the publication about his brother, who, as follows from the recently published documents, founded an offshore company in Panama.

Moreno confirmed that the British authorities gave him guarantees that Assange would not be given to the country where the death penalty could threaten him. On charges raised by Assange in the United States at the moment, he faces up to 5 years in prison. The accusations do not concern the publication of WikiLeaks materials from the server of the Democratic Party of the United States, hacked, according to the American investigation, Russian hackers.

In the Russian media, WikiLeaks, the day before, said that they had not published any new documents in response to the arrest of Assange.
