In 2018, the contribution of the Russian segment of the Internet to the country's economy amounted to 3.9 trillion rubles. This is 11% more than the year before, the Russian Association of Electronic Communications ( RAEC ) reported .
The bulk of revenues — 1.95 trillion rubles — came from e-commerce. Marketing and advertising accounted for 263 billion rubles. Infrastructure, including domain, hosting, and cloud services markets, brought in 106 billion, and media and entertainment — 75 billion. RAEC estimated the contribution of the mobile economy at 1.6 trillion rubles.
As The Bell notes, the contribution of the Runet to the Russian economy turned out to be slightly less than Rosneft's tax revenues. In 2018, the company paid four trillion rubles to the budget and became the largest taxpayer in the country.
