Human rights activist Yevgeny Yenikeyev became a witness in the Baring Vostok case. He believes this was pressure from the head of Matrosskaya Tishina

The Investigative Committee has questioned Evgeny Yenikeyev, a member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) and the Moscow Helsinki Group, as a witness in the Baring Vostok fund case . This was reported by Interfax.

Yenikeyev did not disclose the details of the interrogation: he signed a non-disclosure agreement. He noted that he sent complaints about the actions of the Investigative Committee to the head of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation Mikhail Fedotov and the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova.

Enikeev reported on April 15 that he had been summoned for questioning in the Baring Vostok case. He assured that he knew nothing about the case and called his status as a witness an attempt to put pressure on him by the head of the Matrosskaya Tishina pretrial detention center. “If a member of the POC touches on a criminal case, including as a witness, he will not be able to visit the accused [in the pretrial detention center],” the human rights activist explained to TASS.

Earlier, Yenikeyev claimed that the Matrosskaya Tishina administration was not passing on letters from relatives to one of the defendants in the Baring Vostok case, Frenchman Philippe Delpal, citing the lack of a translator in the detention center.

• There are five defendants in the Baring Vostok fund case. On April 11, the main defendant in the case, the founder of the fund Michael Calvey, was transferred from the pretrial detention center to house arrest. This happened after requests to change the measure of restraint from business representatives. Also released under house arrest was the former head of the Vostochny bank, Alexey Kordichev, who was the only one of the defendants in the case who fully admitted his guilt.
