Olympic champion from Kenya disqualified for four years for doping

Kenyan track and field athlete Asbel Kiprop has been banned for four years for violating anti-doping rules, the independent anti-doping rules body Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said.

The 29-year-old athlete's disqualification starts on February 3, 2018.

In May last year, it became known that the athlete’s doping test “B” gave a positive result; recombinant erythropoietin was detected in it.

In March 2018, the International Association of Athletics Federations accused Kiprop of violating anti-doping rules. The athlete accused doping officers of substituting a doping sample, but the AIU did not find evidence of this. Kiprop also accused the AIU of violating confidentiality at the time of the investigation, but this accusation was not proven.

The Kenyan is the winner of the 2008 Olympic Games in the 1500 m race, and he also became the world champion three times (2011, 2013, 2015).
